I agree, so perhaps we can dispense with all of the wind turbines and the solar panels now.

I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while now. I read about two thirds of the way into it but became so depressed, I put it down. People don’t seem to want to admit to the extent of changes brought by industrial agriculture in states like Iowa. I lived very close in Southeast Minnesota for over nine years, eleven years ago. I saw the growing problem with drugs and general delinquency first hand as rural communities became fragmented. The current denial keeps some good people going; they have so much to cope with, the weather, farm consolidations, brain drain (outward migration of smarter young people), inflated land prices, energy cost, unstable markets, and now, crime. “Methland” is hard reading, especially for a country person, but uncovering the sad truth of rural decay is necessary. We need to face these issues.
